This apartment is located in the former upstairs room of a stately building. The upstairs room was originally used to receive visitors and as a Sunday room. The apartment has an original ceiling with beautiful carvings. You sleep in a mahogany bed of 140x200 meters with a comfortable mattress. In the apartment you have access to a pantry with a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. You also have your own bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. You can enjoy the weather on the roof terrace.

Various shops and restaurants are located within walking distance of the apartments and the Slotermeer (1.5 km) is also a stone's throw away. Balk is located on the edge of the beautiful Gaasterland, a nature reserve that is ideally suited for cycling and walking tours.

Introduction
My name is Engelien Bouma. In 2015, we bought the building that was about to be demolished due to years of vacancy and water damage. Because we have a passion for monuments, we saved the building and gave it a new purpose. On the ground floor, we have created a coffee and tea room with lunch as a work and study place for people with intellectual disabilities. We also sell special (Fairtrade) gifts and are a VVV information point. On the top floor, we rent out three charming apartments: ZON, BOS and WATER. Together with EspecialCare, we run the company with great pleasure. It Bûterhûs has a rich history, once inhabited by butter merchant Poppes, who had the facade stone with butter barrels, butter drill and the family crest (three clovers and three triangles) placed. We have incorporated these elements into our logo. Various original details from that time can still be found in the apartments. In addition, we have put together the audio tour "Balk Boterdorp" together with the historical society, a walk of about an hour with 10 listening points.
Tips from the host
Nice tips: Walk the interesting audio tour Balk Boterdorp. Rent a sloop and sail through the Luts to the forest and to the nature reserve 'de Wyldemerk'. You can also make a round, then continue sailing over the Fluessen to Woudsend and back to Balk. Rent bicycles and make nice day trips by means of the bicycle. the junction cycle map. Book the ferry to Heeg in the summer and get on the skûtsje (by bike)! Also nice is the Balk escape loop, for sale at It Bûterhûs.
