From this apartment you have a beautiful view over Balk and the river Luts. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen including a refrigerator, induction hob and microwave. Adjacent to the kitchen is the sleeping area, here is a comfortable double Auping bed, and there is a beautiful box bed wall with carvings. Behind this wall is the bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. Between the living and sleeping area is a second box bed from 1633, which can be used as a cupboard, but also as a sleeping place (1.20) for a child. It is the original old box bed, which used to be used by the servant.

The apartments are located in the cozy village center of Balk, on the Luts. This river is part of the Elfstedenroute! Various shops and restaurants are located within walking distance of the apartments and the Slotermeer (1.5 km) is also a stone's throw away. Balk is located on the edge of the beautiful Gaasterland, a nature reserve that is ideally suited for cycling and walking tours.

Minimum age: 20 years. The apartments are accessible by stairs. We do not charge a cleaning fee, but expect the apartment to be left tidy. You can open the garden door with the key, which can be reached from the street: the Oper. You can park your bicycles in the back of the garden. There is a charging point for bicycles. It is possible to use the garden. You can park your car for free near the water, between the trees, opposite the location or elsewhere in the village.

Introduction
My name is Engelien Bouma. We bought the property in 2015. It had been empty for years and suffered water damage, so demolition was lurking! Our heart lies with monuments. That is why we have made a strong effort to preserve the building and to give it a good future. We also wanted to give the building a social function and open it to the public. On the ground floor we have realized a coffee and tea service (with lunch) as a work and learning location for people with an intellectual disability. We also sell special (Fairtrade) gifts and we are a VVV information point. On the top floor we rent out three attractive apartments with the names: ZON, BOS and WATER. Together with the employees via EspecialCare we run the business, always with great pleasure! It Bûterhûs is a building with a story: it was inhabited by the butter merchant Poppes. At the time, he placed the beautiful facing stone with the butter barrels, butter drill and the mark of the Poppes family: the three clovers and three triangles. We have brought this back into our logo. Various elements from that time can still be found in the apartments. You can also walk the free audio tour Balk Boterdorp, a walk of about an hour with 10 listening points. I put together this audio tour with the historical society.
Tips from the host
Nice tips: Walk the interesting audio tour Balk Boterdorp. Rent a sloop and sail through the Luts to the forest and to the nature reserve 'de Wyldemerk'. You can also make a round, then continue sailing over the Fluessen to Woudsend and back to Balk. Rent bicycles and make nice day trips by means of the bicycle. the junction cycle map. Book the ferry to Heeg in the summer and get on the skûtsje (by bike)! Also nice is the Balk escape loop, for sale at It Bûterhûs.
